Australian Shaft Drilling
LARGE DIAMETER SHAFT DRILLING
Australian Shaft Drilling (ASD) is an Australian owned and operated shaft construction company utilising the blind shaft drilling method to service both mining and civil projects where vertical, medium to large diameter shafts are required. The company was formed in 2003 with a vision to provide a safer and more reliable way of boring large diameter shafts. ASD has made an impact in the market by providing a safe alternative to conventional shaft sinking methodologies.
Blind Shaft Drilling can provide fast, safe and cost effective solutions in the following applications:
Advantages of blind shaft drilling over other shaft construction methods include:
Shafts may be planned ahead of time and construction completed prior to the underground accessing the area, thus giving the full use of the shaft in the earliest possible timeframe.
Blind shaft drilling provides the safest method of shaft development. All operations are conducted from the surface reducing the level of exposure to workers. Since inception ASD has operated over 2350 days without an LTI and has a current MTIFR rate of 6.08 per million man hours. (Current at August 2010).
Experience and innovation.
These two words symbolise GIA Australia a subsidiary of GIA industri ab. Experience as a result of our longstanding involvement and in-depth knowledge of the underground industry, and innovation that is evidence by our constant success in introducing new ideas and developments.
GIA was founded back in 1884. Initially, GIA sold tools, consumables and other essential items to mines in the region.
Our product range includes locomotives from two to fifty tonnes, Charging, scaling, cable bolting and general service trucks, complete systems for underground Ventilation, which includes our TCV system Tracking, Communication and Ventilation, low profile Kiruna Electric Trucks for underground haulage and a range of high-speed tunnelling equipment including digging arm loaders and Shuttlecars haulage systems. New machines and applications are being developed constantly to meet customer requirements and market demands.
Presently all manufacturing takes place at GIA's production facility in Grängesberg, Sweden, which has production and assembly facilities that continue to grow and recently work has started on an additional 2000m2 expansions on our assembly building. It is our intention to carry out some assembly and manufacturing locally to meet Australian requirements and to assist in producing tailor made products to suit our customers’ needs.
