  • The key to pipeline integrity - Intelligent pigging
In this exclusive interview with Oil & Gas iQ, Hugo Van Merriënboer, Senior Inspection Engineer/Quality Coordinator at Total in the Netherlands speaks to Tim Haidar about intelligent pigging systems and how they are helping the onshore and offshore oil and gas industries maintain thousands of kilometres of pipeline worldwide.
Modern intelligent pigs, or smart pigs, use electronics and finely-calibrated sensors to collects various forms of data during their trip through the pipeline that is being tested. Using techniques like magnetic flux leakage (MFL), electromagnetic acoustic transduction and acoustic resonance technology, the pigs will text for aberrations like:
    • Corrosion

  • The UK's increasing focus on pipeline integrity
Across the global oil and gas industry, few issues have carried quite as much urgency as pipeline integrity management has in recent times. With high-profile leaks highlighting not only the cost implications but the reputational damage that arise from such breaches, the importance of strategic planning in this area cannot be overstated.
  • Pipeline Safety for the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry
Maintaining the integrity of pipelines is essential for the upstream oil and gas industry for a number of reasons. Damaged or inadequate pipelines have the potential to cause serious damage to the environment, pose a safety risk and can impact significantly on an upstream oil and gas company's bottom line.
