Ever since Iraqi insurgents began using Improvised Explosive Devices in 2003, their deadly threat has been the primary cause of casualty for coalition troops.
Billions of dollars have been spent trying to mitigate against this threat and whole industries have sprung up to fill this massive capability gap.
Now, with the campaign in Afghanistan over ten years old and IEDs still posing a very high level of threat, NATO militaries are looking to address the challenge differently.
This conference aims to provide a platform from which to discuss how efforts to detect and defeat the device are continuing, but also to look at how ISR assets and the ordinary soldier can play a crucial role in ATTACKING THE NETWORK.
IEDs “the artillery of the twenty first century”: JIEDDO Chief As the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) releases its ‘Strategic Plan’ (download link below) for combating the IED threat between 2012–2016, Lt Gen Michael Barbero provided his direct thoughts to Defence IQ about the emerging C-IED landscape.
JIEDDO Strategic Plan 2012-2016 Read the full white paper released this year, detailing this key organisation’s, significant findings and primary goals for the four years ahead. Defence IQ is supporting this plan by facilitating an international conference at this year’s Counter-IEDs event in London.
