Al Anwar Ceramic Tiles Company SAOG enjoys the rare distinction of being the first manufacturer of ceramic tiles in the Sultanate of Oman. Established in 1998 with the start of its first manufacturing facility at Nizwa, the company markets its range of glazed wall and floor tiles under the brand name ‘Al Shams’.
The Nizwa plant uses machinery and technical know-how of leading Italian companies. Locally available raw materials, with frits, glazes and pigments imported from leading manufacturers in Italy and Spain are used for production. A second line with a production capacity of 3 million sq. m. per annum was introduced in 2004. Continuing with its trend of consistent growth, Al Anwar introduced its third production line in the year 2010 taking the total production capacity to more than 10 million square meters of tiles per annum. 1. Background Information: Oman Ceramics Co. SAOG was formed in the year 1999 with a view to produce high quality sanitaryware for servicing the markets in Europe as well as the Middle –East region. The project was set up at a cost of RO 5.74 Millions and the original plant capacity was 360,000 pieces which has now been expanded to 600,000 pieces p.a.
2. Factory Location: The factory is strategically located in Sohar Industrial Estate (in Oman) which falls on the Dubai-Muscat highway. Sohar Port in 6 Km away from the factory.
3. Plant & Machinery: The plant and machinery are mostly from the UK and are procured from highly reputed manufacturers in the Ceramic Industry. The Kilns that are supplied by Bricesco of UK run on natural gas. A pressure-casting machine for high volume production of washbasins and pedestals is also installed.
4. Process Knowhow and Training: The initial process know-how was given by a reputed UK Company and experienced British Ceramic Industry personnel trained all the supervisors and workmen for a period of one year.
5. Company Management: The Company is headed by a professionally qualified and experienced CEO who reports to the Board of Directors. A team of qualified and experienced managers specializing in marketing, manufacturing, finance and administration assists the CEO.
6. Manpower: The company presently has 300 employees on its rolls. All employees are well qualified and experienced in their field.
7. Products: The Company manufactures the full range of sanitaryware i.e. water closets, cisterns, washbasins, full and half pedestals, bidets and accessories in different models and colors. A range of back-to-wall WCs and matching semi recess basins, freestanding basins, vanity basins etc. are also manufactured. The Company at present has more than 30 variety of suites from which customer can choose.
8. Marketing: The Company’s products are sold in its own brand name “Wave” in the Sultanate of Oman, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Syria and Srilanka. In a brand survey done recently in Oman for 130 brands across all categories the “Wave” brand of Oman Ceramics Co. SAOG was rated as the No. 1 brand in Ceramics category and No 20 among all product categories. Thus the brand “Wave “ has a tremendous value in the Oman markets.
Almost 15% of the sales are exported to UK. These exports are unbranded and are sold to the end customer under the brand name of the importer.
9. Product Quality and Approvals: The Company’s products have been tested and evaluated by CERAM Research of UK. The Company also has ISO:9000 certification. The Company has recently been certified by KIWA of Netherlands for marking its products with KIWA marking. The Company’s products are also certified by independent test bodies such as SASO (Saudi Arabian Standards Organization) & Exova.
