18:00 – 21:00Smart City: Fixed & Mobile NGN: Understanding the relationships between mobile and fixed NGN service delivery and control platforms – putting SDP, IMS, MTC, EPC into context

Telecommunication infrastructure is constantly changing due to technological progress and changing application demands. This workshop will reflect the recent platform developments in the field of fixed and mobile Next Generation Networks (NGNs) towards a future internet environment, which should enable emerging smart city applications.

In this regard we will look on the convergence of network and service concepts as well as the related evolution of NGN standards and put them into a common context. Finally service examples will be given by looking at the Fraunhofer FOKUS FUSECO playground and the related test bed toolkits on the way to innovative smart city applications.

  • Smart Cities – towards total convergence of network and service infrastructures into open data environments
  • Unification of (rich) communication services – IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)
  • Unification of service access across mobile networks – Evolved Packet Core (EPC)
  • Unification of machine to machine applications – Machine Type Communication (MTC)
  • Towards a common future internet / smart city SDP infrastructure based on IMS, MTC, EPC, and related Service APIs
  • Introduction of FOKUS test bed toolkits: OpenIMS, OpenEPC, OpenMTC, FOKUS Broker
  • Examples from the FOKUS FUSECO Playground (www.FUSECO-playground.org)
