Letter from the Chairman

close-button

Dear Colleague,

Welcome to Military Airlift 2012, my third year chairing what has become one of the major international conferences in Airlift. This is, without doubt, the strongest Airlift conference with which I have been involved, and boasts a most diverse and comprehensive speaker panel.

These are exciting and demanding times for Military Airlift: several venerable platforms reaching retirement; new platforms on the cusp of entering front-line service; and the challenges of both maintaining capability to support ongoing major operations while recuperating from other commitments, and facing the financial constraints of the present era. Military Airlift 2012 affords a valuable insight into this world of strategic and tactical airlift, exploring the latest capabilities, requirements, platform programs and innovation at a time of great demand and heightened awareness of global events.

I am delighted to welcome new, senior speakers to this year's panel, including Major General William Bender, U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Centre (USAF) and Brigadier General Alain Rouceau, European Air Transport Command (EATC ) as well as senior level presentations on national capabilities from European nations, America and Canada.

Key platform development project updates including A400m will be delivered alongside operational experience of the latest in Multi Role Tanker Transports technology with presentations from both the Royal Air Force on the Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft and the Italian Air Force on their new fleet of KC767A platforms. The U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Centre and the British Air Warfare Centre's Joint Air Delivery Test and Evaluation Unit will present on the latest in Joint Precision Air Drop Systems (JPADS).

If you would like more details about any aspect of the event then please do not hesitate to contact the IQPC enquiries team on +44 (0) 207 368 9737, until then, I hope this brochure finds you well and I look forward to welcoming you to London in September.

Ian Shields
Group Captain (RAF) (Ret'd)
Chairman

DefenceIQ’s 9th Annual Military Airlift event will draw together in London our most comprehensive speaker panel to date with 8 out of the top 10 NATO nations to deliver briefings on their future expenditure: including Canadian Air Force, Italian Air Force, Netherlands Air Force, Polish Air Force, Turkish Air Force, French Air Force and Royal Air Force. Attend to gain detailed understanding on current Airlift fleets, procurement programmes and strategies to maximise Airlift capability through Multi Role Tanker Transport platforms, advances in Night Vision technology and streamlined maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) procedures.

Military Airlift will feature briefings from major national and multinational airlift organisations. The AMCC, EATC, MCCE, NAMA and EDA will be detailing new areas of cooperation and sharing as well as the discussing the possibility of direct purchase by these organisations of their own platforms rather than pooling member’s assets.

New areas of focus for Military Airlift this year will include preparations for the projected withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2014.

Military Airlift 2012 will offer you the opportunity to:

  • Hear programme updates on the major strategic and tactical airlift platform development projects which are currently underway including the A400m, C-130 (AMP), learn how your company could benefit from new acquisition requirements
  • Gain a full understanding of the effort to enable multinational military airlift capability – with MCCE, the European Defence Agency, NAMA and the Heavy Airlift Wing having delivered briefings in the past
  • Allow an unrivalled insight into major national military airlift organisations including AMCC, EATC, MCCE, NAMA and EDA: operational feedback, acquisition requirements, training and doctrine
  • Investigate current Air Tanker developments and the increased investment in Multi Role Tanker Transport platforms (MRTTs)
  • Benefit from an in depth analysis into the challenge of redeployment from Afghanistan in 2014. How will the ISAF powers achieve the withdrawal of personnel and equipment and how industry can serve to support this effort

Gen-William-Bender US Air Force Expeditionary Command on Airlift “adaptation”
Major General William Bender, Commander of USAF’s Expeditionary Center, discusses recent changes and upgrades for airlift platforms across his fleet. As US forces face a shift in focus toward the Pacific, increasing the demand of long-haul military transit, Bender insists the new demands have “very real implications for strategic airlift and air refuelling.” Hear his thoughts in this hugely informative interview before his morning address on Day One of this year’s Military Airlift event.
