Pre-Conference Focus Day: June 22 2009
TRACK 1 - Case Study Focus Day
10.00 – 4.00 Workshop A:
Case Study: Using DfSS tools to install solar power at a residence
In this workshop participants will discover how to start a DfSS deployment, advance an existing DfSS effort or rejuvenate their DfSS program. This session will explore existing and
pre-existing efforts and results, plus some common successes and failures of DfSS projects. In particular, it will focus on how to get started with DfSS and build upon your initial
achievements through process improvement within organizations, while achieving a strong foothold with DfSS and creating a complete system.
During the workshop, participants will explore a case study: “Using DfSS Tools to Install Solar Power at a Residence.” This case study will be featured in SBTI’s upcoming book:
“Quality Function Deployment and Six Sigma: A QFD Handbook” written by Joe Ficalora, your workshop leader. The case study will follow the DCDOC roadmap (Define, Concept,
Design, Optimize and Capability) and demonstrate how using valuable DfSS tools such as Voice of the Customer, Kano Model and Quality Function Deployment helped decrease
energy costs and add value to a New Jersey residence.
This introductory session is for new practitioners and will explore how you can successfully overcome barriers to DfSS deployment. Participants will learn cost saving principals
which can be applied to their company deployment as well as their everyday lives.
Topics will include:
- Identifying barriers
- Getting started with DfSS
- Setting the goals, which are achievable and measurable
- Building momentum & stakeholder confidence
- Project selection – finding the most pressing needs
