Creating integrated, sustainable and cost-effective urban transportation
The agenda for Urban Transportation 2009 was designed following extensive research with international and local government, as well as the infrastructure and transport industries. Across two main conference days, as well as an exclusive focus day and two half-day workshops, the event provided a unique forum for leading figures to discuss the key issues, challenges and solutions for creating world-class, integrated and sustainable urban transport.
Our exclusive speaker panel brought together decades of experience and expertise in planning and delivering major transport projects, and it includes:
- Wilfred Lau Cheuk-man, Head of Operations for Hong Kong’s MTR Corporation evaluated the whole life cycle cost for a railway project and explained how to maximise return on investment
- Abdul Redha Abu Al Hassan, Director of Planning and Development, Roads & Transit Authority, Dubai presented the Al Sufooh Tram project
- Julian Hill, Director of Rails, Atkins explained the design concerns and challenges faced when working on the Dubai Metro
- John Spiers, Director of Transportation, Hyder Consulting led an extended interactive masterclass on transport demand management
- S. K. Saha, Director (Ports/Railways/Urban Transport), Secretariat for the Committee on Infrastructure, Government of India evaluated the models for financing mass rapid transit systems
- Eng. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Subail, Director General, Strategic Urban Planning, Arriyadh Development Authority provided a keynote presentation on the sustainable transportation strategies with an emphasis on public transportation in Arriyadh
