8.30 - 11.30 Workshop A: Effective Data Management Strategies for Storing, Analysing, Exchanging & Disseminating Spatial Data

With the use of spatial data at its highest within government and continuing to grow, there is now more than ever a need to place a focus on the management of the data that comes into your department. This workshop will focus on emerging initiatives within government for storing, analyzing, exchanging, and disseminating spatial data. With case study examples, discussions will range from general spatial data management practices, to the requirements of applications that deal with data analysis and knowledge discovery tasks, such as visualisation, geospatial web service and data mining.

Highlights of this workshop include:

  • Improving data access
  • Implementing a web based catalogue application
  • Highlighting data distribution and publication
  • Understanding metadata requirements
  • Improving access to and integrated use of spatial data and information

David-Lemon

David Lemon leads the Spatial Analysis research group, which is part of the Environmental Observation and Landscape Science research program. Prior to joining CSIRO he was employed as a Senior Consultant with one of Australia’s largest providers of services to the Spatial Information industry. David’s prime skills are in the areas of spatial data access and management. As a consultant he provided advice to a wide variety of clients ranging from the Department of Defence to The Open Geospatial Consortium (USA).
