"It is not an exaggeration to say a good biorepository can accelerate research by several years and an unfortunate choice can have the opposite effect"
www.genenews.com
With a drive toward translational and personalised medicines, a demand for efficient, accessible biological samples for clinical or human tissue research is dramatically increasing.
Pharma IQ’s Biobanking 2008 conference will show professionals working in Labs, Biorepositories, Bioanalysis and R&D how to set up productive biological sample management efforts; including how to:
- Develop an in-house database and storage system for bio samples overcoming data migration and software issues
- Update storage technologies from inefficient freezers to novel technologies that are space saving, cost reducing and environmentally friendly
- Implement better processing tools for DNA extraction including preparing different aliquots for specific research requests
- Standardise sample preparation methods to ensure high quality biospecimens
- Understand and work with Regulations and Bioethical challenges to bio samples and human tissue handling
All of the above are imperative to accelerating R&D decision making and aid scientists with harmonised information and samples to design experiments and advance medical science.
Who will I meet and who is speaking?
Meet international stakeholders from national and academic biobanks, technology and software providers and biopharma Directors and Managers in Clinical Diagnostics, Tissue Banks, Bioanalytical, Biomarkers, Genetics, Repositories and Laboratory Heads.
Featured Speaker:
Dr Lon Cardon
Senior Vice President, Genetics
GlaxoSmithKline
Learn from the experience of your peers and industry leaders, hear:
Professor Kurt Zatloukal European Research Infrastructure, Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources (BBMRI) Institute of Pathology, University of Graz, describe how a new pan European infrastructure will provide a harmonised resource for knowledge transfer |
Tim Peakman Executive Director, UK Biobank will talk about their continuous improvement efforts for their proven application of industrialised design, implementation and operation of a high throughput sample processing and archiving facility |
Dr Jennifer R Harris Senior Researcher, The Norwegian Institute of Public Health explain how PHOEBE is coordinating a harmonised platform for epidemiology and biostatistics, information management systems, strategies for genotyping and ethical and societal issues |
Professor Paul Burton Professor of Genetic Epidemiology, Department of Health Sciences and Department of Genetics, University of Leicester underline how to make biobanking data more useful, relevant and accessible
|
Don’t miss…
Don’t miss the Cancer Biobank Evening Workshop. With a greater focus on establishing and utilising disease specific biobanks, this workshop will examine how researchers, healthcare providers and biobanking partners are setting up cancer specific biobanks and leveraging international Biobanking networks to attain greater knowledge of genetic and life style risk factors associated with cancer.
Expert clinical and epidemiology perspectives will be presented from AstraZeneca and OnCore UK.
