The World Market for Passive Military Sensing and Targeting Systems is forecast at nearly $50 Billion over the next 10 years.
By far the largest sector of this market is for Airborne/Space-based Electro-Optic Systems (85%), but the Land and Sea-Based Sectors are also growing rapidly.
What does this mean for the Air sector?
A wide range of EO systems is available and under development for combat aircraft, attack helicopters and UAVs. Next-generation fighters such as the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and Eurofighter Typhoon will carry infrared-based sensors allowing passive searching for both air-to-air and air-to-surface targets.
What does this mean for the Land and Sea based sectors?
As Stealth technology is increasingly applied to Warships, developments in Electro-Optic Technology offer improved means of passive surveillance, detection, identification and weapons control. Naval EO Director Systems are currently being produced in many countries, for a wide range of naval vessels.
