Jonathan Jasper has been the Manager of Cabin Safety at the International Air Transport Association for 3 and a half years.

Prior to joining IATA, he worked for Virgin Atlantic Airways in the UK for 25 years as cabin crew, purser, safety instructor and eventually Cabin Safety Procedures Officer, where he spent time writing crew manuals and providing safety input into various innovative cabin equipment, service and design projects.

• The airlines strive for innovative cabin products and push their boundaries to enhance the

passenger experience

• The Certification bodies are struggling to keep up with innovation and are lagging behind,

requiring from the airlines to use safety management systems and risk assessment

• Often, for confidentiality reasons, the cabin experts in risk assessment are kept out of the loop

until the last minute, leaving the airlines struggling to get approval for equipment on the latest

stages of installation
