Family-friendly entertainment destinations, new cinemas inclusive of 400+ screens, jobs creation and $64 billion investment underline the new era for Saudi Arabia. A recent study by PwC revealed that the Kingdom’s cinema market could potentially generate 60 to 70 million admissions and the box office market could reach $950 million in 2030. Seven is at the forefront of these developments and will be taking the stage to deliver an exclusive presentation and update on these developments.
Cinema has evolved a lot since the first recorded screenings in 1895, in fact it is evolving tremendously every year. Cinemas today are creating unbelievable experiences but, some believe cinema is dying out with the growth of online subscription service platforms like StarzPlay and Netflix which are set to increase their subscribers total in MENA region by 50% by 2020, according to global research firm HIS Markit. Industry experts take the stage to discuss key points and share their insights into the future of cinema as well as how cinema can survive the next decade and beyond.

  • How will cinemas attract & retain customers?
  • Is content really king or is it all about customer experience?
  • Latest technology & innovation
  • Can traditional cinemas join forces with video-on-demand platforms like StarzPlay and Netflix?

11:30 am - 11:50 am Presentation: Retailtainment is the Future - Moving Past a Retail Destination to a More Engaging Leisure Attraction

Victoria Lynn - General Manager – Leisure & Entertainment, Meraas
Shoppers are prioritising experiences over material things; a recent study found that 59% of 20-29 years-old and 57% of 30-39 years-olds agreed that experiences are more important than possessions.

Consumers place high priority on the experience rather than just buying a product. Traditional malls should move towards a more engaging and interactive attractions to ensure consumers spend more time and money at their mall. What is the next generation of mall-goers looking for? What are the best strategies to accomplish this?

Consumers can shop, play and watch films from the comfort of their own homes, but is this killing the industry? Despite all the services such as Netflix and Amazon, consumers are still chasing the experience. 49% of Americans prefer in-store shopping rather than online and they spend 64% of their shopping cash in store compared to only 36% online. While online streaming services have great content, even Netflix’s Chief Executive remarked that cinemas have better-tasting popcorn. These facts prove that the brick-and-mortar industry is still generating great revenue and offering the best customer experience.

  • What are the current trends for consumers’ wants and needs?
  • Can online services compliment the traditional ways or will it always be war?
  • How can the brick-and-mortar industry ensure they stay relevant?
