11:40 AM Operational Efficiency: A Win Win for Older People in Hospitals – Reducing Time to Surgery and Length of Stay and Improving Outcomes for Hip Fracture Patients

Hip fracture is common injury and despite the patients being some of the frailest in the hospital they are traditionally cared for by orthopaedic surgeons. Learn about transformational models of care that have improved outcomes for patients and reduced costs at Fiona Stanley Hospital:

  • A multidisciplinary approach with shared care by geriatrics and orthopaedics
  • A guideline/framework agreed by the entire team including anaesthetics, nursing and allied health
  • How this approach has led to shorter times to surgery and lengths of stay, as measured  by the ANZ Hip Fracture Registry
