In the last 3 year KCI developed an alternative for the bolted or grouted connection in monopile foundations: the Double Slip Joint. It allows fast installation of transition pieces and it is robust and can also be used under water. This opens new options for the design to reduce the weight and length of foundations of future XL turbines. Supported by Van Oord, SIF and the Dutch government TKI-Wind op Zee, testing of a steel prototype at scale 1:5 has been completed in sept 2017 at the testing institute WMC.
