Gone are the days when the workplace was merely a physical space that employees occupied during the normal 9-5 grind. Today, companies are looking for ways to connect their employees with each other and the office to drive productivity. To accurately reflect this evolving work experience, organizations have begun to implement an entirely new work environment: The Digital Workplace. By integrating the technologies that employees use (email, environmental controls, workflow management tools, virtual meeting tech, etc.) with a sensor-enabled environment, companies are able to connect their employees with one another to increase collaboration and productivity, enhance the ease of use of the physical workplace, and create a more welcoming environment.

In this roundtable we will share some lessons learned with regard to which environmental aspects were more or less influential in determining the overall outcomes of our new North American Headquarters. We will also speak to why design and product specification were based on how the occupants would feel, respond and perceive the new working environment. We will share data and occupant survey results that show that putting people first is the right order when it comes to creating spaces for companies to thrive. There have been so many advances in the materials we use to build our world that almost every surface can contribute to helping you shape the office of the future – today.
Second 30 minutes: MANAGING CHANGE IN THE CHANGING OFFICE ENVIRONMENT: ENGAGING OCCUPANTS TO ADVOCATE FOR THE UNKNOWN

Where is my new desk? Will I have the privacy I need to do my job? What’s for lunch in the new cafeteria? These questions, while they may seem small compared to “How much will this new office cost?”, are the ones that affect the daily lives of your employees. By implementing a process of Volunteers and “Voluntolds” to engage the majority of your occupants in the decision-making process of a new office design, the employees themselves can be your strongest advocates in creating a productive and engaging corporate culture. In this session we will share the process we used across the manyl layers of decisions, communication and change management when moving to a new office environment. From material and system selection, furniture, fitness center equipment, processes, menus, and third party contractors to best practices and on-boarding procedures, we will discuss how to facilitate employee empowerment and the results that can come from putting the people in charge.
