1:20 PM Intelligent Building Security: Guidance in Developing & Assigning Mitigation Strategies

This non-technical presentation showcases a 2018 ASIS Foundation and Builder Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) funded research project. The project investigated IB vulnerabilities and surveyed both security and facility professionals in their understanding and practice. Findings indicated a limited understanding of IB risks and importantly, suitability in resulting mitigation strategies. Therefore, the project developed an IB Security Guidance document, to inform professionals in mitigating the many and changing IB vulnerabilities, threats and risks. Guidance commences with designating the impact that the IB may have if a realised event to a list of security questions that considers management, security risk, personnel, physical and cybersecurity measures, incident and continuity planning, and maintenance practice At the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • Gain an understanding of the threats, risks and vulnerabilities to buildings and its organisation that Intelligent Buildings can pose; and
  • Provide a non-technical strategy to mitigate the threats and risks of Intelligent Building through an easy to apply industry published guidance document.
