The only city infrastructure show bringing together global visionaries, city planners and key stakeholders working on major infrastructure projects

Conference Day Two: Wednesday, 17 April 2019

9:30 am - 9:40 am Opening remarks from the chairperson

9:40 am - 10:00 am MOVING TECH BEYOND THE HYPE - A deep dive into the key challenges cities are faced with while implementing smart city infrastructure

Technology and IoT has the power to transform the way data is shared and improve its transparency. While cities around the world were among the first to recognize the benefits of this technology there are still many challenges inhibiting cities technology use cases.

·         Creating a network powered society
·         Discovering new IoT applications and importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration using 5G
·         Limitations of IoT networks
·         How to improve functionality of IoT networks?

10:00 am - 10:30 am MAURER Middle East for monitoring, inspection and rehabilitation of bridges

1. MAURER Middle East for monitoring, inspection and rehabilitation of bridges  (by Raad HAMOOD ca.)
2. Full Scale Testing in Structural Engineering an indispensable link between supplier and purchaser (by Dr. Hussein Alawieh)

10:30 am - 11:00 am The Italy implementation of a digital infrastructure to sustain social and economical development

This session will highlight the implementation of a digital infrastructure in 28 municipalities located in the north of Italy whose aim is to sustain the social and economical development of those areas. The digital infrastructure provided IoT connectivity covering all the territory with a low power wide area network protocol (LoRa). This kind of connectivity  facilitated the business digitalization both for local governments and private companies producing efficiency and new quality of services for citizens and entrepreneurs.
Raffaele will illustrate business models, public-private partnership models and communication initiatives used to build and manage the governance of the initiative. He will also point out how this experience has provided a good practice to avoid a wave of digital divide for communities located outside big metropolitan areas. Finally he will also point out how this initiative has been partially funded by a contemporary initiative of energy efficiency in public lighting and by private investment of a smart city operator.

11:00 am - 11:20 am Reserved for TANQIA

11:20 am - 11:50 am COFFEE BREAK

11:50 am - 12:15 pm Activating the opportunity of using AI and the potential savings for transport schemes.

This session will highlight the UK Government's (and IPA's)Transforming Infrastructure Performance policy which talks about improving Benchmarking, Integration & Alignment of Infrastructure , Procurement then Smarter Infrastructure
Key question: How to leverage Rapid Engineering Modelling - by improving design processes?
·         AI in action! Case study insights into using AI in project engineering
·         How to harness the power of AI for environmentally friendly and sustainable construction

12:15 pm - 12:30 pm Update to fib Post-Tensioning Protection Levels

12:30 pm - 12:50 pm Safety First! The road towards achieving Vision Zero and elimination traffic fatalities in cities

The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that road traffic injuries will rise to become the fifth leading cause of death by 2030. The Vision Zero strategy across countries is driving the approach to minimize fatalities from road traffic accidents. It is important to understand what this means for the changes in current safety standards and protocols.

  • What are the new solutions and road safety initiatives to improve driver behaviour?
  • Are autonomous vehicles and smart mobility contributing to Vision Zero?
  • How to use analytics to identify patterns and problems
  • What new law enforcement initiatives will help to change the speeding culture

12:50 pm - 1:10 pm Corrosion Inhibiting Admixture- Game Changer

Corrosion of reinforcing steel is the predominant cause of premature failure in reinforced concrete structures leading to financial losses, safety risks and environmental impact. Corrosion is estimated to cost the economy of the United Arab Emirates $3.7bn Annually.
The understanding of the mechanisms and kinetics of the degradation processes of concrete allows us to improve the design of structures to enhance durability and extended service-life.
Incorporation of MCI Corrosion Inhibitors to concrete mixes is simple, time-proven, cost-effective and environmentally friendly method of achieving significant enhancement in durability.

1:00 pm - 2:00 pm NETWORKING LUNCH BREAK

2:00 pm - 2:40 pm Optimal control of interconnected systems: Ultimate Factory & City

2:00 pm - 2:40 pm EXPERIENTIAL SESSION: RoadBotics: The future of maintenance and analytics is here
With a mission of revolutionizing the way road infrastructure is maintained and managed throughout the world; the RoadBotics team use smartphone and machine learning to provide automated road conditions.
