The sanitation network of Alexandria is one of the oldest in the whole of Egypt and it dates back to 1912. The total length of the sanitation network carried out until 2019 is about 4050 km and 93.4% is connected to the public network for sewage. As of now there are 178 pumping stations and 20 waste water treatment plants serving the city.
