Metro systems are often discussed in terms of movement and capacity and are frequently referred to as mass transit systems. This common view overlooks the profound impact that public transport systems can have on the culture of a city, often impacting how we define ourselves, our communities and the environments we live in.
Sydney’s public transport system is undergoing a major transformation that will undoubtedly reshape the city, and this transformation presents an opportunity to deliver meaningful social and cultural outcomes.
Based on Maynard’s recent project experience in Europe, Asia and Australia, we will share insight into how culture has been considered as an integral component in the design of transport systems
