11:40 am - 12:10 pm How to support the wind turbine of the future?

Ferdy Hengeveld - Manager Mechanical Engineering, Van Oord
  • Recent tender awards: trend of decreasing prices for offshore wind energy is continuing
  • Wind turbines are getting bigger and external conditions increase in complexity
  • Enormous pressure on the designers and supply chain to come up with improved foundation designs and installation methods meeting all requirements
  • Challenges for future foundations, e.g. related to manufacturing, transport, installation, noise mitigation etc.
  • Ongoing innovations that aim to solve those challenges: pile driving and noise mitigation of large monopiles
  • Slip joint connection that will be implemented in the innovation site Borssele V: the first time a submerged slip joint is used on a full size wind turbine on a full commercial basis

5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Substructure connections

Dirk Pulles - Manager Renewables, KCI
  • Substructure connections and residual risks; are we there yet?
  • Connections have been around since the early days of offshore wind. While the grouted and flanged connections have been fully adopted, other innovative solutions have been proposed and developed
  • Discuss the latest developments and status of different concepts, share challenges and successes about market introductions and prepare yourself for future substructure connections!
