9:00 am - 9:40 am CASE STUDY: Sydney Metro - Australia’s First Fully-Automated Driverless Railway

Sydney Metro is a new world-class metro. Services started on the North West Metro in May 2019, with 13 metro stations and 4,000 new commuter car parking spaces. A new generation of metro trains run every four minutes in the peak, bringing new connectivity and customer experience to the North West of Sydney.
Oliver Fried, Sydney Metro Program Technical Director, will provide an overview of Sydney Metro. In particular, he will highlight the customer benefits of the new metro product and detail technical features, operations

10:20 am - 10:50 am Speed Networking Session

An effective structured interactive session designed to help expand your network through one-to-one focused conversations. Bring your business cards!

10:50 am - 11:20 am MORNING TEA AND NETWORKING BREAK

11:20 am - 12:00 pm CASE STUDY: Department Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Successful Consultation, Co-Design and Customer-Driven Approach to Rolling Stock Modifications

Four years after the procurement of the $4.4 billion New Generation Rollingstock (NGR) project, a review of design was necessary due to non-compliances from the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport 2002 (DSAPT). This case study will explore the journey of collaboration and engagement from key external stakeholders that will, as a result, deliver one of the most inclusive modern train fleets in Australia once the accessibility modifications on all 75 trains in the NGR fleet are complete in 2024.

  • How to ensure that the diverse interests and needs of passengers with mobility, hearing, and vision impairments are represented
  • Developing recommendations and going beyond DSAPT compliance to achieve increased functionality and an enhanced customer experience through successful stakeholder communication
  • Overview of the process and how this can be adopted for future projects to ensure successful project delivery

12:00 pm - 12:40 pm INTER-STATE RAIL LEADERS PANEL: Preparing the Market: Exploring Future Requirements and Opportunities for the Rolling Stock Industry up to 2030

The horizons for efficiency in travel are broadening and there is a lot to look forward to in the rail space – Particularly rolling stock. This panel will host leaders from different states exploring the opportunities, innovations and preparations to look forward to including future rail infrastructure plans and rolling stock requirements.

  • Developing a comprehensive and collaborative market led strategy for future  rolling stock
  • Discussing opportunities and strategies to generate improvements in value for money  for future rolling stock procurement
  • What will fully automated rolling stock and digital transformations look like?

12:40 pm - 1:20 pm Network Asset Management of real time rollingstock information across the Central Queensland Coal Network (CQCN)

1:20 pm - 2:20 pm NETWORKING LUNCH

2:20 pm - 3:00 pm CASE STUDY: Understanding the Network that we have Today and How to Achieve the Best Outcomes for the Future through Strategic Rolling Stock Investment

Taking a whole-of-Government approach to the network, Ben Phyland explores what we can do with rolling stock to improve local workforces and introduce successfully proven technologies into Australia. He will also explore the importance and strategies behind retrofitting trains and trams effectively into local networks to reduce the financial impact of infrastructure upgrades and other costs may not have been budgeted initially.

  • ‘Interactive design phase’: Creating a skilled local workforce and being confident in the ability of your provider through strategic investment and procurement strategies
  • Exploring continuity in supply chain through a whole of network approach
  • Strategies in practice with Victoria’s new trams, trains (diesel and electric) and new high capacity metro trains (HCMTs)

3:00 pm - 3:40 pm Achieving Effective Predictive Maintenance of Railway Assets by Utilising Rolling Stock Performance Data

Railway operators are demanding higher productivity and throughput to meet increasing demand. This coupled with shrinking maintenance windows and tightening of available asset repair budgets necessitate responsive strategies to ensure continued safe operations and service reliability whilst creating greater efficiencies. This session will explore:

  • How technology and system approaches are being utilised by leading railway organisations to overcome these challenges and improve their operations
  • Strategies to measure and analyse rolling stock performance data using an automated processing system
  • Implementation of proactive predictive maintenance and operation through technology
  • Reducing maintenance cost, ensuring safer operations and extending asset life of rolling stock
