With smart grid technologies rapidly advancing, there is a need to reflect on the shift towards advanced smart grid schemes in future SCADA systems. This site tour will bring you face to face with Melbourne University’s real-time demonstration platform, which is used to validate advance concepts in a realistic environment. This is enabled by real-time digital simulators, which were designed as a supercomputer to calculate power flows in a fraction of a second and mimic real-time behavior of electricity networks. This simulator also has a strong focus on connectivity to other electricity elements and platforms, such as PLCs, relays and SCADA, through commonly-used protocols, such as DNP3 and IEC 61850.

- Creating interactive visual interfaces using off-theshelf SCADA platforms
