9:20 am - 10:00 am Implementing an Interconnected Smart Port Vision: Eliminating Waste from the Port Community to the Logistics Chain

The Port of Rotterdam, Europe’s largest seaport, will deliver a keynote presentation delving into the steps ports should undergo to improve their operations. Synthesizing the smart port process, Jan will focus on individual port automation and how this must then be developed into the integration of a holistic port system with neighboring berths. It is here he will discuss the importance of port management, port call optimization and how having clear ship to port connectivity can reduce fuel costs by up to 50%.

  • Understanding the different levels of digitization ports must undergo to improve their supply chain
  • Determining the benefits of an information exchange between ports for operational efficiency
  • Learning how the port continues to remain active in utilizing new digital strategies

10:00 am - 10:30 am Thought Leadership Session

10:30 am - 11:00 am Speed Networking Session

An effective structured interactive session designed to help expand your network through one-to-one focused conversations. Bring your business cards!

11:00 am - 11:30 am MORNING TEA AND NETWORKING BREAK

11:30 am - 12:10 pm Project Case Study: Delivering Smart Construction of Smart Ports

Eugene Cheah - General Manager Business Development, Fulton Hogan
With Australian container throughput forecast to grow to over 19 million TEU by 2033, but constrained by available land and road congestion, smarter solutions need to be developed to increase productivity. Eugene Cheah, General Manager Business Development at Fulton Hogan Construction will present innovative ways to team, plan, procure, design, construct and maintain Smart Port infrastructure by way of case studies including:

  • Port Botany Shipping Terminal for Patrick’s AutoStrads ®
  • Moorebank Intermodal Terminal for Qube’s Automatic Stacking Cranes
  • Inland Rail Construction of the Parkes to Narromine section for ARTC
  • Webb Dock  Smart Pavements for VICT’s Automatic Stacking Crane and Shuttle operations

12:10 pm - 12:50 pm Working towards Supply Chain Optimisation: Adopting a Strategy to Become the Most Advanced Cargo-Handling Facility

The Quebec Port Authority, a deep water port are undergoing a range of strategic projects that will require $190 million investment to rebuild and redesign the wharf. Along with this investment is the agreement to build and operate a new container terminal, known as project Laurentia. This case study will discuss the port’s plan to build the most environmentally and technologically advanced cargo-handling facility in North America, becoming a terminal with the smallest ecological footprint in the world.

  • Identifying all relevant stakeholders in the supply chain to increase port productivity
  • Attracting and retaining customers through the delivery of industry-led services
  • Developing high end infrastructure to enhance the productivity and efficiency in the movement of goods

12:50 pm - 1:50 pm NETWORKING LUNCH

1:50 pm - 2:30 pm Maximising Terminal Productivity through Automating Processes to Deliver Additional Capacity

Anders Dommestrup - Chief Executive Officer, Victoria International Container Terminal
Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) will present a case study on how automation is streamlining processes to deliver consistent results for the Port of Melbourne. As the first, fully automated container terminal in Australia, the terminal is designed to deliver the capacity and longevity to support continued trade growth. It is here VICT will discuss the journey the company has undergone, from winning the tender, design and build, to driving new automation strategies.

  • Understanding the key distinctions between digitisation strategies and the need to automate terminals
  • Utilising autonomous equipment (cranes and shuttles) in the development of a smart container terminal
  • Developing technology to integrate a seamless terminal operating system
  • Implementing strategies needed to handle increased cargo output

2:30 pm - 3:10 pm Port of Melbourne: Developing New and Smart Infrastructure to Provide Capacity for Operational Flexibility

This case study will delve into the work taking place within the Port of Melbourne to improve operational processes through automation as well as improving workforce capabilities, highlighted in their 2050 port development strategy. Within the development of smart infrastructure and digital advancements, new departments are becoming more heavily integrated. It is here they will discuss how their 2050 strategy was developed to provide a strategic framework for the capacity and efficiency of the Port over the next 30 years.

  • Understanding how the collaboration between different departments needs to be improved in order to shape operational programs
  • Treating operational resilience as a two-way stream for the collaboration between IT and OT
  • Bridging the gap between the two departments through training, process, and stakeholder engagement

3:10 pm - 3:40 pm AFTERNOON TEA AND NETWORKING BREAK

Interactive Discussion Group (IDGs)

This is your chance to make your conference experience truly interactive and collaborative. Each IDG is set in a roundtable format and will be facilitated by an expert practitioner in the space. In two rotations, each IDG will last for 30 minutes, allowing you to pick the two topics you wish to discuss and solve.

Table One
