Workshop A

9:00 am - 11:30 am Smart Ports 101: Determining the 5 Key Steps to Digitizing Ports for Reduced Cost in Labour, Fuel and Operations

By integrating a smart port strategy in 2019, research shows that labour costs can be reduced by 45%, energy consumption cut by 80% and fuel costs reduced by 50%.

These figures alone demonstrate the benefits of digitization for ports and terminals, however the steps to do this can be complex. This workshop, hosted by the Port of Rotterdam’s Digital Business Development Manager, will delve into the 5-step approach needed to implement an effective strategy.

This workshop is designed for all port and terminal leaders hoping to either begin or continue a digital transformation strategy within the next 5 years.

The key areas that will be discussed include:
  • Implementing an individual automation strategy
  • Developing an integrated system within your port
  • Integrating your system from point A to B
  • Having a connected port and logistics chain

Workshop B

12:00 pm - 2:30 pm The Balance between a Transparent Data Exchange and Port Call Optimisation through a Smart Port Audit

Learn how physical processes are now being automated within the supply chain infrastructure. Examining how ports can embrace digital innovation tools with operator intelligence, they will present on the team’s smart ports auditing strategy, where they delve into the ways ports can conduct a smart port health check. This is often completed through conversations on digital transformation, digital twin technologies, data capturing, as well as stakeholder collaboration.

This workshop, run by Quebec Port Authority’s key leader in this space, will determine how you can utilize this technology within your port structure, and how to reduce costs by up to 188,000 tonnes of Co2 and 1,000 tonnes of nitrous oxides a year.

It is here participants from ports across Australia and the Asia Pacific will delve into automated terminal data, dock gate sensing and how to use new asset management tools to report on speed of operations, fuel consumptions and proactive decision making capabilities.

  • Connecting ports and flexible route planning through the adoption of new technologies
  • Increasing situational awareness among the actors in the ports and at sea in the corridors
  • Improving the information exchange through stronger digitization strategies

SITE TOUR – VICT

3:00 pm - 4:30 pm Tour Victoria International Container Terminal

Frances Simpson - Communications Advisor, Victoria International Container Terminal
As the first, fully automated container terminal in Australia, VICT is designed to deliver the capacity and longevity to support the continued trade growth of the port.

Using the most advanced technology at their disposal, the terminal automates processes to deliver extra capacity for Port of Melbourne to support continued growth with over 1 million TEU annual throughput.

Guests will receive a guided tour of the terminal, observing all the operations of the automated cranes and equipment by receiving a first-hand look inside the terminal.

Your guide, Frances Simpson, will narrate the terminal’s operations during this tour, where you will be able to ask and get your questions answered.
