It’s important to make your facility as inclusive as possible to help people transition into care. This is especially important for people from the LGBTI communities who have experienced life-long oppression and discrimination. 

There are a small number of aged care providers that have achieved Rainbow Tick accreditation, which indicates that the provider is fully inclusive of LGBTI older people. Lifeview in Victoria is one of these providers.

This is your opportunity to understand LGBTI ageing and aged care and ask the relevant questions: 

  • How do you drive inclusiveness and “see” through the LGBTI lens? 
  • Why do you need something different for delivering LGBTI aged care and what services must you adapt to better serve their needs? 
  • How do you change your culture to be more open, transparent and inclusive?
  • How a code of conduct for other residents and visitors will help quell discriminatory behaviour
