Co-creation is at the heart of Dementia Australia (DA) and Swinburne University’s “A Better Visit” application. Designed to help build relationships and engagement between residents, their families and staff, hear how:

  • The co-creation process brought up ideas DA hadn’t even thought of when they first planned it
  • Online solutions were not feasible because they had distractions, were unintuitive and not a tailorable solution
  • The day they launched “A Better Visit”, the results were visible and immediate and people were having fun!

2:10 pm - 2:40 pm MODELS OF CARE: Make Ends Meet – Diversify Funding Streams and Reassess Your Recruitment Strategy

A constant battle for providers is to do more with less. If you’re smart about your resources and can think outside of the box, you’ll be better placed to make ends meet and stay abreast of the Royal Commission. Learn how Jacaranda Village is doing just that by:

Goodwin Aged Care invested $1 Million for solar at the Ainslie facility and is already seeing a significant reduction of up to 39% in utility bills and an estimated $230,000 in savings per annum per site. Learn why it’s important to:

  • Have a good working relationship with your vendor to maximise savings and leverage opportunities 
  • Allow residents to be part of the footprint greenhouse emissions and see the energy savings come in in real time
It’s important to make your facility as inclusive as possible to help people transition into care. This is especially important for people from the LGBTI communities who have experienced life-long oppression and discrimination. 

There are a small number of aged care providers that have achieved Rainbow Tick accreditation, which indicates that the provider is fully inclusive of LGBTI older people. Lifeview in Victoria is one of these providers.

This is your opportunity to understand LGBTI ageing and aged care and ask the relevant questions: 

  • How do you drive inclusiveness and “see” through the LGBTI lens? 
  • Why do you need something different for delivering LGBTI aged care and what services must you adapt to better serve their needs? 
  • How do you change your culture to be more open, transparent and inclusive?
  • How a code of conduct for other residents and visitors will help quell discriminatory behaviour
