Pre-Conference Interactive Workshops: Monday, 2 December 2019

12:00 PM How to Achieve a High Sustainability and Efficiency Rating On a Tight Budget to Maximise ROI from Your Retrofit or Refurb Project

The term ‘sustainability’ has broadened in use to include more environmental factors than just energy and water, more economic issues than risk and resilience, and more social topics than health and safety. This means that achieving sustainability through retrofits and refurbishments are not necessarily based on the technology or systems, but the strategy and programs behind the project. This workshop will look closely at where organisations can truly work to become sustainable on a tight budget, whether it be from the design process, engaging construction and management supply chains, integrating technology or analysing building standards and codes to help achieve the most ROI in the long term from your retrofit or refurb project.

What will you learn from this workshop?
  • Start with the business case: Identify what the stumbling blocks are for building the business case and how this might influence your green purchasing decisions
  • Putting asset and facilities management at the front on mind to improve your existing assets and improve their performance
  • Surveying the building to identify areas of improvement to help select and identify the right building performance technologies that will be of most value to your building
  • Energy saving improvements through cultural development: How you can explore the use of low-cost employee behavioural changes to help improve your building’s efficiency and reduce energy usage
