09 - 11 October, 2019 | Sir Stamford Circular Quay, Sydney, NSW

Pre-Conference Workshops: Wednesday, 9 October 2019

Workshop A

9:00 am - 11:00 am Site Tour of the New $300 Million Rail Operations Centre

The newly opened Rail Operations Centre (ROC) will modernise how Sydney’s rail network is controlled through incorporating dozens of previously disparate systems into a single location. The state-of-the-art Rail Operations Centre which will minimise delays and ensure that when incidents do occur on the Sydney Trains rail network, customers receive better and faster information. This guided site tour for rail owners and operators will talk you behind the scenes of the multi- level operations centre. The following questions will be answered:

  • How the ROC will modernize Sydney’s rail and transform their approach to rolling stock
  • How this center enables Sydney trains to track and respond to incidents, communicate with customers and monitor safety from different locations and in different ways
  • How this center will ensure Sydney Trains can continue to improve the service it provides to customers

Workshop B

12:00 pm - 2:30 pm Exploring the Internal Change Management Needed For Teams to Support the Success of Technology Integration into Existing Fleets

This interactive workshop will explore the roadmap for implementation of new systems, and how asset technology change aligns with the human change process. The workshop will draw on participants’ experience in technology implementation to shape how the project lifecycle goes hand-in-hand with effective change management.

- Optimising project narrative for efficient stakeholder engagement
- Brownfield technology implementation vs. brownfield change management
- Methods for managing concurrent technology projects

Workshop C

3:00 pm - 5:30 pm Supporting an Ageing Fleet and Ensuing Optimal Operation beyond Recommended Lifespan

Railway operators are demanding higher productivity and throughput to meet increasing demands.
However shrinking maintenance windows and tightening asset repair budget means strategies must be put in place to ensure rolling stock is safe and reliable beyond its recommended lifespan.

  • Ensuring integrity, reliability and safety when keeping a train in service beyond recommended lifespan
  • Maintenance and fleet management strategies to ensure optimal performance
  • Through life engineering and maintenance design
  • Integrating condition monitoring systems into existing systems
  • Planning fleet management to limit wear and tear and maintain integrity and safety
