Akbar Md Thayoob is Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy at Gas Malaysia Berhad, where he leads the Group's corporate strategy, sustainability and risk management portfolios, as well as its long-term growth agenda, including new businesses and strategic opportunities supporting the Group's evolution in a changing energy landscape. He brings over three decades of leadership experience across the energy, natural gas, petrochemical and downstream sectors, spanning corporate strategy, sustainability, risk management, business development, commercial operations, international ventures and petrochemical plant operations. Prior to Gas Malaysia, Akbar held senior leadership positions within the PETRONAS Group, including several Chief Executive Officer roles in Malaysia and Vietnam. Akbar also brings board-level experience and currently serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Perdana Petroleum Berhad, a Bursa Malaysia-listed offshore marine services company. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from West Virginia University and has completed executive programmes at Harvard Business School and INSEAD.
