Keeping Pace with Pedagogy

Keeping Pace with Pedagogy

Check out last year's presentation from Dano Weisbord, Director of Sustainability and Campus Planning, Smith College on Keeping Pace with Pedagogy

In traditional classroom spaces, the design of the classroom can dictate a teacher-centered, didactic approach to learning. While there is a time and place for this, multiple studies have shown that students learn best when they work collaboratively and are personally engaged with the material. When we attempt to address this challenge, we must plan a campus for our faculty of the future by using current faculty who are experimenting with pedagogy as our guides, engaging them in the learning space planning process.

In this session, participants will:

  • Examine what a campus-wide approach to updating teaching and learning spaces looks like
  • Look at what can be changed from the simple to the complex.
  • Consider what kinds of institutional culture change is required to build a campus for the future.
