Re-imagining Archives: How the Past Can Revitalize Library Engagement

Check out last year's presentation from Curt Asher, Dean, University Library, California State University, Bakersfield on Re-imagining Archives: How the Past Can Revitalize Library Engagement

While archival collections are often housed in university libraries, they are often mysterious outliers that are not fully integrated into the life of the library.

At California State University, Bakersfield, the archival collections have been curated and physical space redesigned to provide an experiential and project-based learning space for students from a variety of disciplines. By rethinking the ways unpublished historical materials are utilized at universities, administrators and archivists in academic libraries can:

  • Help bridge the community-university gap
  • Become a center for project-based learning and outreach
  • Create new opportunities for academic instruction
