Testimonial from Matej Schlitzenbauer, Senior QA Lead, Nacon

10/06/2023

What advice would you give to someone wanting to start a career in QA?

Definitely start. If there is anything holding you back from starting in QA, that's just you. That's the one hurdle you need to work through. You only live once, and it sounds like a cliché, and your life is too short to do something you don't like. So just start. There's a ton of junior roles. Apply. There's a page, I think it's called GameDevMap. It's perfect if you're searching for anything. You can just look up your city, your country, and find the studios that operate there. And then just look at their page and look for junior QA roles. [Music]

What are some of your highlights from GQF 2023?

We're still in the middle of it, so I think there might be another breakout for me. But already, you know, like David King's any kind of workshop or a lecture that David King has is eye-opening. I really like his approach to how do you work with a team and the way he speaks about people and pushing them up is something really inspiring to me. So that's the one thing that I always look forward to when I'm here.

Why is it important for QA, localisation, and player community professionals to come together in one unique forum?

That's a good one. Actually, I really like coming together because you see all the other people that have the same role as you, the same issues, but they have different solutions to them. And it's always nice to see people approach stuff differently than you. And even when they approach it the same way, at least you know you're on the right track or that it works in different studios, right? So that one thing, the experience sharing and talking to other people, coming out of the rut of regular work and just speak to other people from the industry, is a very crucial thing. And I think there is never enough experience sharing in localization, QA, community management, everything.

Describe GQF in three words or less!

I think 'fun' would be one of them, then the experience and community as a whole. If I can just a bit, you know, frame it a bit, I think that having the friendliness and the community of QA people or game development people overall is a very important thing. And that's how I would describe it.
