11:50 AM REDEVELOPMENT: The Design of Palmerston Hospital to Accommodate for the Complex Dementia Cohort

Transitioning a complex cohort from one hospital to another is no easy feat. Hear how Palmerston Hospital was adapted to meet the needs of those living with dementia, and how they managed to successfully transfer staff and patients from Royal Darwin Hospital in a single day:

  • Design considerations guided by Dementia Australia that was adopted in the build and its impact on patients, staff and families; including accessibility, access points from wards to external gardens, open dining rooms and greater visibility
  • Challenges around transferring dementia patients and staff, including legislative barriers around how/when to transfer, complex patient behaviours and  business as usual
  • Tracking technology and transfer techniques to assist smooth transition
  • Contingency planning, change management and collaborating with external stakeholders to minimise trauma for the patient

Check out the incredible speaker line-up to see who will be joining Jeffrey.
