11:40 AM How strategic planning initiatives are addressing the challenges facing the public health sector and informing healthcare infrastructure investments

Realistically, we don’t have the budget or workforce to keep building new hospitals. These drivers provide the imperative to transform and refocus our health system to deliver more care in the community and in people’s homes as well as keep people healthy and well. South Eastern Sydney Local Health District has developed integrated health service plans for its facilities that have informed major capital redevelopments on its hospital campuses. Learn how they are:

·         putting into action their focus on wellness and community/home care to reduce hospital demand by using community consultation and a population health and life course approach
·         designing integrated health service plans for health facilities such as the Royal Hospital for Women and Prince of Wales, St George and Sutherland hospitals to inform the type of redevelopment they will need from a capital works perspective
·         using scenario modelling to anticipate hospital beds, clinic/treatment space and support service needs by overlaying a range and number of scenarios (as advised by clinicians and our research) onto base activity modelling
