After completing his master's degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Rostock in 2017, Florian Kalkowsky began working as a research assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute for Large Structures in Production Engineering IGP in the Mechanical Joining Technology working group. As part of his work, he deals with many issues from the field of wind energy in the area of mechanical joining technology as well as strength assessment according to various standards. His research focuses on the load-bearing capacity of mechanically fastened joints and on the fatigue strength of welded and non-welded structural details of support structures for wind turbines.
• Fatigue tests on non-welded structural details as Free Edges, Holes and Openings
• Consideration of the material strength, manufacturing method and post-treatment on the
fatigue resistance
• Classification and derivation of resistance values for fatigue design
• Design recommendations
