Ömer Can Kücükyildiz is a structural engineer at COWI within the offshore and geoscience group and his focus area is Finite Element (FE) assessment of transport, installation and in-place structural integrity of offshore wind foundations. Before joining COWI, he has been working at Wood Thilsted for 5 years and as a Ph.D. and researcher at the Technical University of Denmark for another 5 years.

16:00 Understanding buckling in current and next generation (XXL) monopiles through numerical studies and optimization

This roundtable explores buckling in current and next generation (XXL) monopile foundations from a multidisciplinary perspective. We will discuss how geotechnical conditions, structural loads and fabrication imperfections interact in ways that remain conservative and/or insufficiently understood in current industry practice, limiting potential for optimization. The session will also highlight how improved numerical methods and FE simulations can support de-risking and more cost effective monopile design.
