Bearing design involves a significant number of often conflicting parameters, with improvement in one feature resulting in deterioration in another. With continuously growing size of wind turbines and blades, the requirements for bearing design have changed and bearing design concepts have to be reviewed. What are the major challenges in bearing design for bigger wind turbines and what are the appropriate main shaft bearing design concepts to meet the new requirements?
