Marc Seidel

Senior Key Expert - Support Structures for Offshore Wind Turbines Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy

I am working in wind energy since 1996 - first as researcher at University of Hannover, later in the wind industry as design engineer for support structures (towers, substructures & foundations) of wind turbines on- and offshore.

Today I have specialized in Offshore Wind Turbines, with a focus on structural design and load simulations. I have worked on several offshore wind projects, with all kinds of substructures (e.g. jackets, monopiles, gravity base) and at very different locations (extremely shallow water to 50m water depth).

I am also a member of national and international standardizations committees (like IEC 61400-3 or German BSH and DIBt) and member of several supervisory panels for research projects in Germany.

I have published a number of papers on my work, see http://www.marc-seidel.de where you can find PDF copies of most of my publications.

Conference Day 2

4:00 PM Advanced structural analysis of digitally twinned metal wind turbine support towers

• A protocol for establishing high-fidelity geometric representations of large

tower structures for FE modelling derived from high-resolution outer surface

laser scanning

•FE modelling choices for resulting ‘digital twins’, particularly with regards to

boundary conditions and can connections

• Simulation of ‘digital twins’ by GMNIA
