Zia is a US/EU lawyer and currently the Head of Compliance for Polarium in Sweden – a leading lithium-ion battery company with markets from Australia to the US to Africa and the Middle East. Having spent a decade practicing EU law in Brussels, she has advised and worked with EU-manufacturing companies that are squarely affected by EU Regulations like the Eco-design Directive, REACH, WEEE and RoHS. As Head of Compliance for Electrolux and now Polarium, she understands what it takes to translate and sell compliance internally, how it affects business strategy and cost, and how to operationalize it in a risk-based and effective manner, whether the requirements are about due diligence, trade sanctions, customs law or product regulation.
