Sarah Hoyle has spent nearly 20 years building and leading global online safety teams across major tech platforms. She currently heads Trust & Safety at Spotify, a department she founded in 2019 to protect creators, users, and advertisers across one of the world's largest audio platforms - navigating content moderation in a medium where context lives in tone, not text. Her team of policy analysts, enforcement specialists, engineers, and data scientists develops and enforces policies, builds internal tooling, and shapes product design to keep people safe and the platform compliant with local laws and regulations.
Previously, Sarah led Safety Policy at Twitter, where she tackled hate speech and harassment at scale, authoring critical updates to the Twitter Rules that balanced free expression with protections against real-world harm. Before that, she spent six years at Google, founding the content policy function for monetized publisher products and developing pioneering signals for CSEA and adult content detection.
Trust & Safety is still often viewed as a cost centre, making it difficult to secure investment and executive buy-in. Leading organisations are reframing safety as a driver of growth, retention and brand trust. Success requires clear metrics, measurable outcomes and stronger alignment with business objectives.
