The #TSSummit Journey So Far

The Trust & Safety Summit was first held in March 2024, at a time when the Trust & Safety landscape was seeing a significant paradigm shift.

We started work on the summit in Summer 2023 - the Digital Services Act was coming into enforcement, the Online Safety Bill became the Online Safety Act and pressures on online platforms were mounting across the board. As the role of T&S evolved, Online Safety leaders faced significant challenges of achieving more, with limited, stretched resources.

With these new regulations, UK & Europe took centre stage. We wanted to explore a new event as there wasn’t a platform that brought the UK Trust & Safety community together to have real, strategic conversations. However, it quickly became apparent that this couldn’t just be a UK conversation, and as such we have seen our event audience expand globally.

Our mission when we launched the event was quite simple – How do we help Trust & Safety professionals do their jobs better?

We wanted to focus on the fundamental challenges and needs of online safety leaders from Policy, Legal, Product, Moderation and Enforcement. Rather than purely an industry conference, we made a conscious decision to build the event around the specific needs of the people leading T&S initiatives in their business – how do you build the business case for T&S, harmonizing regulation, resilience in policy development, navigating T&S at scale, best practices of content moderation, breaking down T&S silos and more.

Our most recent event, only the second iteration, welcomed over 270 T&S professionals from across 80 different online platforms. The community has embraced the event wholeheartedly, and we have been incredibly grateful for the support we have received to help make the Trust & Safety Summit possible.

Today’s mission remains the same – how can we build an event that helps Trust & Safety leaders do their jobs better. But the content has evolved, and the focus is now moving towards how you can you unlock the real business value of Trust & Safety – connecting responsibility to commerciality, and reframing T&S as a value generator.
