Conference Day Two - Wednesday 25th March 2026

11:50 AM The Missing Middle: Designing for Relational & Predictive Harm

Trust and safety teams have become highly effective at detecting clear violations such as fraud, CSAM, and terrorism. But many of the most damaging harms such as grooming, coercive control, and manipulation emerge gradually within relationships and rarely appear as rule violations until it is too late.

  • Understanding the “Missing Middle”: behaviours that signal escalating risk but do not yet meet enforcement thresholds
  • Moving beyond incident-based moderation to identify patterns of relational harm over time using signals platforms already collect
  • Exploring earlier, graduated interventions such as friction, behavioural nudges, and survivor-focused AI tools that help recognise and respond to harm sooner
