Alex
is an engineer with a professional background in large mechanical testing
facilities. He is a department head at the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy
Systems (IWES), where he and his team are investigating innovative support
structures from a geo-technological as well as a constructional/steelwork point
of view – experimentally and numerically.
• Off-shore wind turbine structural validation faces challenges from top to bottom, requiring thorough analysis and testing.
• Extreme loading conditions necessitate robust validation techniques to ensure component integrity.
• Validation at the tip involves assessing aerodynamics, material fatigue, and structural response.
• Validation at the bottom involves evaluating foundation stability and dynamic interaction with the supporting structure.
